Ok, I went today and here is the info I was looking for and could not find:
    1. you have to prepare nothing at all BUT: bring your passport.
    2. you can park right at the border at Sta Barbara parking for 2 euros per hour, there are enough places.
    3. you walk over the border, hold up your passport, they don’t really check it, they check none of your luggage so don’t mind about food and stuff.
    4. turn off roaming, depending on your provider this might not be included in EU.
    5. if you have a tight schedule or children definitely take the rock bus tour. There are many providers but the one at the border within the passport check house works fine. Costs like 48 euros, takes 2 hours and they leave you in the city center where you can shop and eat. Worth every penny.
    6. although there is a cave and mountain monkeys and altitude, don’t mind to much about clothing. It was very tempered everywhere we went.
    7. WALK back from city center to the border, you will walk over the runway of the airport. You might not yet appreciate how once in a lifetime thing that is.
    8. everything from parking to eating to souvenirs can be done by NFC card, do it! They do take euros, pound sterling and local pounds, but really don’t worry about the change.

It' fun to walk across the airport runway from the Spanish Border. Never seen this before!😁

The Rock is amazing but the city is not nice – only alcohol, tobacco and perfum shops and restaurants offering British food and pints. It's ok for 1/2 a day.
