I'll only use American money in Canary Islands, and speak only English there.

We have had some great holidays in the Canary islands. However, over the last few years, we have noticed a decline in the standards of the hotels but an increase in their prices. The pound is very low at the moment ( 1.12 ) euros, so there is no value there at the moment. We either wait for the pound to improve or we find cheaper destinations. C'est la vie!
